Rus Infantry (48) from Victrix
The Rus engaged in intense conflicts with neighbouring Slavic tribes and formidable steppe cultures like the Pechenegs, Bulgars, and Khazars. Employed as mercenaries by the Byzantines, they were also formidable adversaries, epitomized in the chronicled Battle of Silistria in 972, where they advanced in an unyielding shield-wall formation with levelled spears. Their naval prowess allowed them to dominate crucial trading routes, amassing wealth that was reflected in their diverse and culturally influenced armaments.
